Fusion is the reaction where light atomic nuclei join and release energy. At the centre of the Sun it happens continuously because the star’s own gravity presses the fuel together. On Earth there is no such gravity. What we built instead is this doughnut-shaped machine. Start from the outside: the thick vacuum vessel, the column running through its centre (the central solenoid), and the large coils wrapped around it. There is no fire here and no chimney. There is only the structure needed to hold a ring of ionised fuel in a magnetic field.
