Follow air through a turbojet cross-section — intake, compressor, combustor, turbine, nozzle — as pressure ratio and throttle set the cycle temperatures, exit velocity, thrust, and efficiency.

Four rooms the air passes through

Inside the cross-section, air flows from left to right. From front to back, four rooms: compressor, combustor, turbine, and nozzle. What a jet engine does is actually very plain — “breathe in, compress, burn, and push out.” The cold blue air suddenly gets hot in the combustor and jets out the back at high speed. First, just watch that whole flow.

Follow the blue intake through the four rooms and out the back as a hot jet.
